Petra Hoffmann studied singing with Elsa Cavelti,  singing mistress at Francfort/Main. She completed that education with Charles Spencer,  Paul Esswood and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.  

As an Opera Singer, she performed among many others the parts of Blondchen (The Abduction from the Serail), Frasquita (Carmen), Lenio (Greek Passion), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), The Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) , She (Desire), Neither (M. Feldman), 1st Soprano (Prometeo ) at La Monnaie in Brussels, at The Basle Theater,  Opera Real Madrid,  Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos Lisbon,  the Stuttgart State Opera,  the Bavarian Marstall Theater and la Fenice in Venice.


As an interpreter of contemporian music, she participates in numerous Festivals such as Salzburger Festspiele, Biennale of Venice, Steirischer Herbst, Festwochen of Lucerne, Wien Modern, musica viva Munich, Ruhrtriennale, Milano Musica, Mostra Sonora (Spain), and also in Japan, South Corea and Latin America. In the course of her artistic activities she worked with Maurizio Pollini,  Radio-Symphonic Orchestra of Bavaria, SWR Symphonic Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg,  Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra,  North West and South West Philarmonic, Munich Chamber Orchestra,  Klang Forum Wien, Ensemble Moderne,  Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich,  WDR Choir, SWR Vocal Ensemble,  ensemble 2e2m, Ensemble Espai Sonor (Spain),  DissonArt ensemble (Thessalonica), Phoenix (Basle) and ensemble recherche, with conductors such as Claudio Abbado,  Michael Gielen,  Ingo Metzmacher,  Peter Eötvös,  Frieder Bernius, Antonio Pappano,  Kwame Ryan, Roland Kluttig, Arturo Tamayo,  Emilio Pomarico, Sylvain Cambreling, Rupert Huber and Marc Foster.

Various recordings as well as Radio and TV productions illustrate the wide repertoire of this artist.  Petra Hoffmann is also giving courses in Germany and abroad.
